About Us
Mitra Institution (Main) Alumni Association
Our beloved Mitra Institution ( Main) founded on 5th January 1898 by Babu Bisweswar Mitra, a friend of Sir Ashutosh Mukherjee, Honorable Justice of Calcutta High Court. Initially it started with only five students. The initial address of new school with few rooms was 45 Beniatola Street ( now lane). During this year whole of India had only 5134 high schools. The total number of high school students were 530783. In 1901, Raja Peary Mohan Mukherjee of Uttarpara became the first President of the school. On his persuasion Sir Alexander Pedlar, the the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calcutta awarded the recognition from the University of Calcutta in 1904, the school became famous. Sir Ashutosh Mukherjee and Bipin Chandra Pal, Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Sir Bhupendra Nath Bose, Amritlal Bose visited Mitra Institution (Main) and became involved with its affairs. After a brief period the school shifted to larger space on Harrison Road ( now M G Road) with a few more rooms at Sitaram Ghosh Street. Finally before independence got final destination at 60B Mirzapur Street. Before our school this palatial building was of Ripon’s College. Here Swami Vivekananda was publicly felicitated by the students after return to India via Madras. The steamer docked at Budge Budge, and the Swami and his party arrived by train in Calcutta on February 19, 1897. The reception was magnificent, with an enthusiastic crowd at the railroad station, triumphal arches, the unharnessed carriage drawn by students, and a huge procession with music and religious songs.
Gradually established as one of the most trusted name in school education in Calcutta. The credit goes to the then legendary teachers amongst them three were the son of our founder. This institution had observed it’s centenary during 1997. The Ex-students were meeting regularly and ritually during Saraswati Puja every year. On this auspicious day the alumnus of the school were interacting with each other forgetting their batch or year of stay with alma matter. They felt at the centenary year that we are deficient in having a forum. May be this is one of the reason the then authority of school could not involve the exstudents at large. Our Mitra Institution Alumni Association was born.

Alumni are the torchbearers of our school’s legacy, carrying the light of knowledge and tradition into the world
Our Mitra Our Alumni
25th year of formation
It is the 25th year of formation. During this brief journey we observed our Annual Reunion day every year on the 3rd Sunday of November every year. On this day we meet and interact with each other forgetting our current status and position. On this day we try to felicitate very senior alumni, award of recognition to the current year’s toppers of school leaving examinations, some merit cum means support to the financially backward students. This event put a mark in previous years with many reminiscences of old alumni, multi directional cultural performance by our exstudents as well as few noted music personality by “living Encyclopedia of Music” Sri Biman Mukhopadhy, Sri Pijush Kanti Sarkar, Dr.Sukanti Hazra, Sri Subir Sen etc. Initially we used to have a dinner party at Pataldanga courtyard where two rival politicians Sri Devi Paul and Dr. Abirlal Mukherjee took food from same plate commemorating their school days as they were. But due to logistic problem and restrictions by law we had to convert it to packed dinner, of course tea part at evening is going on.
Our Values
Few years black all the exstudents association of Bengali medium school had formed a conglomerate. On the very first occasion our exstudent Dr. Basudev Mukherjee staged a full length drama at University Institute Hall on our behalf.
Beside these we have done health checkups for both teachers and students on several occasions along with blood donation
